Looking After your Lawn as we head into Spring...

How to keep your lawn looking great as the weather warms up

IMG_0812

OK....winter's over, and your lawn has woken up - making the most of the warmer sunshine.  It will start to feel the effects of the extra warmth and resume its normal spring time growth.

As a general rule, you should gauge how much water your lawn needs by the average rate of daily evaporation (ET).  Our figures indicate that the average ET for September-November is approximately 7mm per day.

To help in keeping your lawn the 'greenest' lawn (a.k.a. environmentally friendly) on your street, we have included some specialised programs that you can follow to make sure your lawn is getting the right care.

It's more than just water...

This is the key time to be giving your lawn a fertiliser treatment, to ensure it gets the right nutrients to take off, and handle the warmer, drier conditions.  Just as your body cannot survive without food, so your lawn needs food to stay healthy - right through the year.

We have a number of specialist products that we recommend will give you the best results.

For the best results, we recommend you don't go past the Sir Walter Fertiliser, and Palmetto Underlay products.  These are available from Greenacres Turf Farm at competitive prices.

Watering

If your lawn isn't new anymore...

For the more established lawns (i.e. greater than 12 months old), you will only need to water about 2-3 times per week.  With the ET at approximately 6-7mm, your lawn should look to receive approximately 18-20mm of water per week.

If you are operating a bore, try to work on 3 applications of 6mm per week to achieve the best results.  We recommend you seek advice on watering if you are relying on scheme water.

If your lawn is still young...

For the newly established lawns (i.e. 12 months old or younger), you will need to water a little more frequently.

If you are operating a bore, work on up to 9mm of application (3 applications of 3mm), four days per week to achieve the best results.  We recommend you seek advice on watering if you are relying on scheme water.
