Preparing Your Soil

Before you can lay down your purchase of quality Greenacres turf, you need to make sure your site is ready for the new addition. These simple guidelines will help to ensure your surface is ready for your new lawn.

Level Your Root Zone Material

Clear any debris from your site including any previous invasive grasses like kikuyu, and sticks/other matter.

Refer to soil information for information on the types of soil to use for your lawn surface. Once you have chosen the right soil, spread on the area to a satisfactory root zone depth. The ideal root zone depth for new lawn is approximately 300mm.

Establish an Irrigation System

If you don't have an existing irrigation system, you need to decide if you are going to sink a bore, or if you will rely on scheme water. You will also need to decide if you are going to install an irrigation system, or if you are going to rely on shifting hoses and sprinklers.

If you are using an irrigation system, make sure your sprinklers are at the correct height that the popup sprinklers will sit level with the turf. This is usually between 8-10mm above the surface.

Apply Organic Fertilisers

Once the ground has been smoothed out and compacted ready for your lawn, apply pelletised poultry manure such as Dynamic Lifter or Organic 2000. You can purchase Organic 2000 with your lawn from Greenacres Turf Farm. One bag will usually be enough to plant the front, back and verge of a suburban house block. After you have spread the Dynamic Lifter or Organic 2000, just leave it on the surface.

Apply a Lawn Starter Fertiliser

Before laying your lawn, apply an even coverage of a Lawn Starter Fertiliser. You can purchase a suitable lawn starter fertiliser from Greenacres Turf Farm when you purchase your new lawn. Lawn Starter fertilisers have a higher content of phosphorous than Lawn Maintenance fertilisers.

Read and follow the directions on the bag of fertiliser for best results.

Irrigate the Area

Make sure that your laying area is damp to a depth of 150mm. Before and after laying, you will need to apply more water than after the lawn is established. You will also need to water during the day. You should receive water restrictions exemption information from us when you purchase your lawn.

Follow these simple guidelines, and you are well on your way to having the greenest lawn on your street!
